Gonzaga vs. Oklahoma Preview

Tonight the Bulldogs square off against the Oklahoma Sooners in the Spokane Arena.  The Zags are coming off of a victory over Eastern Washington, while Oklahoma enters fresh off of a bad 15 point loss to UTEP.  Read on for more on this match-up.

Big Fellas - Tonight will be a great test for Robert Sacre as he matches up against Sooner center Tiny Gallon.  Gallon is a 300 lb. beast and will really test Sacre in the low block, both on offense and on defense.  For Gonzaga, watch whether or not Oklahoma sends the double team to Sacre from Goodson when the ball enters the block.  If Sacre is only defended one-on-one, it will be vital for him to be aggressive and go right at the strong Gallon.  Defensively, it is imperative for Sacre to stay out of foul trouble.  Gonzaga has a tendency to go small and athletic when they get into foul trouble, however if Sacre picks up cheap fouls early and Kelly Olynyk is the back-up center, it may be a long night on the block for the Zags.

Oh, Canada! - With their stellar performance as of late, will Bol Kong and Manny Arop continue to see increased minutes? Coach Few has been very reluctant in the past to alter the starting line-up, regardless of performance.  At some point both Arop and Kong need to find more minutes in order for this Zags team to continue to improve.  If Meech is a non-factor offensively, one can only hope we get a lineup featuring the above Canadians, Harris and Bouldin. Don't be surprised to see Arop substitute for Steven Gray and cover Sooner star Willie Warren.

"Home" Court - Historically Gonzaga has not played all that well, regardless of record, in the Spokane Arena.  Tonight's New Years Eve game does nothing to boost attendance, and the hockey arena is ill-suited for basketball.  The Bulldogs must find a way to shoot the basketball well and make up for the presumable lack of energy in the building.  A quick start for the Zags is important and will take the Sooners out of their comfort zone.
